PBA AGM 2016 – bullet points:

At the Perthshire AGM in November 2016 we were asked to send out a bullet points from our Committee meetings. These are the bullet points from the Perthshire Committee meeting from the meeting on the 16th February 2017:

  • Top Ten competition will be run on Monday nights after the Scottish finals
  • Consideration was given to joining the Perth & Kinross Sports Council
  • Top 5 Singles competition will be held on Thursday nights after the PBA finals
  • Committee members attended the Bowls Scotland AGM at Glasgow
  • Committee members attended 2 seminars run by Bowls Scotland/Perth Kinross Council on the development of bowls in Perthshire with emphasis on youth and the gaining of new members.

Summary of the Committee meeting 16th February 2017

  • Clubs may wish to view the website perthandkinrosssportscouncil.co.uk as we are now affiliated to the PKSC. Grants are available in 3 sections covering Club Development, special events, and personal athlete development. All grants are at the discretion of the PKSC committee and application forms are on the website
  • A meeting concerning the Hamilton Trophy was attended in February and further meetings and proposals will be formulated
  • The PBA is continuing to try and develop a youth programme in conjunction with Live Active and Bowls Scotland. The committee is also attending meetings concerning PVG form and Child Protection.
  • As some umpires in Perthshire are due to retire the PBA is contacting BS to try and get an umpires course established to be run this year/next year for those interested
  • Top Ten semi-finals and final will be held at Blackford Bowling Club on Sunday 6th August 2017
  • Top 5 Singles semi-finals and final will be at Bankfoot on Sunday 3rd September 2017

Bullet points from March meeting

  • Eddie Nicholson President of Bowls Scotland gave a short talk and a discussion followed on BS projects. He encouraged all clubs to sign up to Try Bowls and to try and develop better digital communications
  • Top Ten run by the PBA this year would have its semi – finals and the final on 6th August at Bankfoot B/C
  • An initiative consisting of Under 25’s development days in Perthshire was approved with the first day on 28th May at Blackford. Contact R Anderson for more information
  • Dates for North Senior League games were agreed as:

08-08-17 Angus V Perthshire at Stanley/Forfar
15-08-17 Mearns V Perthshire at Alyth/Portlethem
22-08-17 Bon Accord V Perth at Dunning/Polmuir
05-09-17 Dundee V Perthshire at Errol/Balgay

Bullet points from April meeting

  • A new format for the Hamilton Trophy was discussed and proposed at a meeting of Associations in Dunblane BC consisting of 2 sections of 4 teams giving Associations 6 games. Top team in each section would play for the Trophy and runner up would play for the shield. This would be a 2 year trial subject to BS approval
  • Perthshire u/25 development days would run to 1st July more info from Ron Anderson at Blackford BC
  • Governance of the Association was discussed and any proposals would be brought before the next AGM
  • It was agreed to review Greens for future Hamilton Trophy games.

Bullet points from July meeting

  • The Perthshire County team finished their season playing the quarter final of the Andrew Hamilton Cup but sadly did not progress further. They did however win their own section last achieved some 20 years past. The section trophy was presented to President Ray Taylor at Crieff by President of Bowls Scotland Eddie Nicholson
  • The PBA Committee voted for Gordon Baptie as team player of the year, and the team in voting for the players’ player of the year also did the same
  • Committee agreed to players request to travel in team polo shirts from next season rather than a shirt and tie
  • The Top Ten trophy had been returned to the PBA and has now been rebadged and Stanley won the final
  • The under 25 development days had shown a slight increase in numbers and the next day would be 27th August at Alyth with the final day this season on 17th September at Perth BC
  • The Top 5 semi-finals and final will be played at Bankfoot on 3rd September

Bullet points from August meeting

  • After discussion by BS Board The Hamilton Trophy competition format would remain as normal 1.0 After discussion by BS Board The Hamilton Trophy competition format would remain as normal for the 2018 season. This would allow the newly appointed BS Strategic Director of Competitions and Events to review and make changes where agreeable with all parties for the 2019 season
  • A commemoration event would be organised at Bridge of Earn for T E Nicholson in September
  • The AGM date is at Perth West End Bowling Club on 25th November at 2pm. Retiring members, and any resolutions to be brought forward by the Committee would be discussed at the next meeting

Bullet points from September meeting

  • A commemoration event was held at Bridge of Earn for T E Nicholson on Friday 22nd September to commemorate
    22 years as District secretary for Perthshire
  • There could be up to 4 of the committee retiring this year at the A.G.M.
  • We now have the Trophy’s for the Top Ten & Top 5
  • We now have badges for Top Ten & Top 5 some have been distributed
  • The under 25s development days had been successful and it was proposed that possibly 3 weekday evening venues would be organised for road shows before the next season in 2018. Thanks to Ron Anderson and his team for the hard work this past season
  • The Perthshire A G M will be held on Saturday 25th November at Perth West End at 2.00pm
